Benefits of NALS
All NALS licensed firms have made a commitment to maintaining defined standards of service to any landlords they represent and to their tenants. These include:
These requirements are designed to protect both the landlord and the tenant.
The SAFEagent Campaign
The SAFEagent badge allows firms who are regulated by NALS, ARLA: propertymark, the Law Society, RICS and UKALA to immediately identify to landlords and tenants that they are part of a Client Money Protection Scheme.
You do not have to be a NALS licensed agent to apply for SAFEagent status and display the endorsement on your premises and marketing material – but you do need to be regulated by an organisation that requires agents to be part of a Client Money Protection Scheme and is recognised by SAFEagent. All NALS licensed firms are eligible to apply for SAFEagent status. You can register here. The cost for a single office NALS firm is £40 + VAT (normal fee £55 + VAT)
With tenants and landlords becoming more and more knowledgeable about their rights, and the protections they should expect from a lettings and management firm, the SAFEagent campaign is well worth signing up to, as it is fast becoming a byword for trust and security in the letting industry.
Dealing with Complaints
How can I make a complaint about a NALS agent as a landlord or tenant?
All NALS firms have a written Customer Complaints Procedure available on request. Your first step is to ask the firm you are dealing with for a copy, and this will outline the method by which they will seek to resolve any issues.
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the in-house review of your complaint, then you can refer the matter to an ombudsman for independent review. The Complaints Procedure will detail which Redress scheme your agent is part of.
